To Be Liona

Yzabelle sat with her hands in her lap and waited patiently while her maid plaited and wrapper pearls through her very curly, long red hair. The maid pulled Yzabelle's hair tight as she worked taming the mass of red curls.

"I am sorry for pulling so hard princess. I just wanted to make sure your hair would not come undone again. You can look at yourself now." The maid apologized stepping away from Yzabelle.

Yzabelle glanced up and saw her clever maid had wove the pearls through her curly hair, giving the illusion of a beautiful crown on her head. "Very nice, thank you for being so clever!"

"You are welcome, thank you for sitting so still and not beating me!" Her maid smiled looking closely at her handiwork. "You do look so grown up princess."

Yzabelle laughed,"First of all Esme I will never beat you. In the past months I have noticed that I am no longer a little girl." Yzabelle paused and pretended to smooth out her gown. "I had the opportunity to go live with the priestesses as I did before I came to live here, when i was a little girl. They want to teach me the mysteries but the king says no. He says I must learn to govern."

Esme knelt down next to Yzabelle, "Princess, I hear the sadness in your voice about not being able to go live amongst the priestesses. You must remember specifically you were concieved and bred to be queen of Ausa. I understand you are young, queen Dawna before she past from this world made me promise to help you and the lady Liona stay focused on your destiny." Esme took Yzabelle's hand. "Now I heard the king asked for a priestess to come here and teach you what she could outside of their commune. I will make sure you see her as often as you can. You must promise to do well with what the king will teach you too. Do we have a deal?"

Yzabelle put out her hand to shake Esme's, "Yes, we have a deal. i promise to be a great student of both the king and the priestess. Queen Dawna was a priestess, she was a seer. She had the tattoo on her forehead. How is it she became queen?"

"Queen Dawna was allowed to have those rite because her parents did not have a plan for her. Her parents had son's before her. They made all of their plans for their son's and allowed Queen Dawna to learn the mysteries. When the king met her, he was taken with her innocence and wisdom. He asked for her hand the same day he met her. They met in the spring and were married by midsummer." Esme told Yzabelle, "That is how she became queen."

"I will go to the naming ceremony tonight and then the king will want me to marry Arfor. I don't want to marry him. He is mean." Yzabelle said looking beyond Esme.

"He is sick Yzabelle. You must remember that and forgive him his meanness. Remember to bless him and do what you can. He will be the next king of Ausa and you queen. Stand up and let me see you all ready." Esme took Yzabelle's hands and pulled her out of the chair. When Yzabelle was standing Esme sighed. "You are not a little girl anymore. Remember this, you were born to be a queen. If Arfor passes before you are queen, there are other princes lined up and ready to take his place. For now you need to focus on what you have learned about being a gracious hostess and enjoy yourself tonight."

Yzabelle closed her eye and took a deep breath. She calmed her mind and heart, already at fourteen years old she had started to build her empire with the assistance of Queen Dawna's court. So many decisions she had to make to protect herself and Fiona from the constant criticism's of the kings court. Now tonight in front of the court the king would take away her birth name Yzabelle and rename her Liona, her adult name. She wondered what would it be like to be named Liona? How much would it change her?

This is an extra story or idea about Yzabelle/Liona of The Book of Yzabelle. It is part of when I was developing and getting to know her.
